Individual & Family Support

Individual addiction counselling

One-to-one support for alcohol, drug, nicotine (smoking and vaping), gambling and other addictive behaviours, tailored to your circumstances.

Available online throughout New Zealand, including Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton and Tauranga.

Overview

One-to-one support for alcohol, drug, nicotine (including smoking and vaping), gambling and other addictive behaviours. Sessions are tailored to your circumstances and may include relapse prevention, recovery planning and ongoing aftercare.

Support is also available where addiction occurs alongside anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, stress or other behavioural-health concerns. Our approach is grounded in behavioural science — understanding the patterns that sustain addiction is the first step toward changing them.

Who this is for

  • Individuals wanting confidential, one-to-one support for alcohol, drug, gambling or other addictive behaviours.
  • Anyone wanting to quit smoking or vaping, or reduce nicotine dependence.
  • People whose addiction sits alongside anxiety, depression, stress or difficulty regulating emotion.
  • Anyone at any stage — early concern, active recovery, or maintaining change after treatment.

What support may include

  • An initial confidential consultation to understand your circumstances and goals.
  • Individually tailored counselling sessions, at a pace that suits you.
  • Nicotine dependence and smoking/vaping cessation support, including practical, individualised quitting strategies.
  • Relapse-prevention planning and practical recovery strategies.
  • Ongoing aftercare support to help sustain meaningful change.

Frequently asked questions

What happens in a first session?

Your first session is a confidential conversation about what's going on, what you want to change and what you've already tried. You don't need to have everything worked out. By the end we agree a first step and what the plan will look like.

Do I have to want to stop completely to book?

No. Many people come in unsure. We start where you are, and the first goal is understanding your situation clearly.

What can you help with?

Alcohol, drugs (including prescription medication), gambling and other behaviours that have become hard to control. We also work with the stress, relationships and habits around them.

Is what I tell you confidential?

Yes. Counselling is confidential, with the standard legal and safety limits explained to you at the start, as required by the NZAC Code of Ethics.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your situation and goals. We review progress regularly and agree the length of support together.
